The Hotels around the University of Nebraska

College football in Lincoln, Nebraska, home of the Nebraska Cornhuskers, is big … very big. This modestly-sized Midwestern city has no professional sports teams to cheer … no other major college teams to follow. So … the Cornhuskers, a football team with a long history of success, enjoy almost rabid support.

College football begins each year in September and usually ends around Thanksgiving. In Lincoln, the Cornhuskers’ home games are always sold out. Alumni show up from all over the country to attend the games and to root for their team.  The result is that it can often be difficult to book a decent hotel room.

University Nebraska HotelsFortunately, there are a number of fine hotels, motels and motor inns within minutes of the stadium where Nebraska plays its games. Many national chains are represented in this area and, because it is in the middle of the country, prices are reasonable.

If you plan to visit Lincoln this fall to watch Nebraska on the football field, it’s probably a good idea to book your hotel, motel or motor hotel well in advance.  You’ll be assured of having a comfortable place to “rest your head” after a hard day of rooting for your team in Nebraska’s open and windswept stadium.

There are many fine places to stay. These include: the incredibly popular Cornhusker Marriott Hotel, which is luxurious, comfortable, close to the stadium and the action … and one of the top hotels in the Marriott chain. Embassy Suites, another major chain, has a superb hotel located downtown in the city center … just five short miles from the Cornhusker campus. There is a number of Holiday Inn hotels located in and around Lincoln. The best one may be in the city’s historic Haymarket District. Close to shopping, fine dining and sightseeing, it is also conveniently close to the University of Nebraska campus … and its football stadium.

There are many other national chains with hotels in the area. These include: Ramada Inn, Comfort Inn and Econo-Lodge plus local hotels and motels, too. Prices for accommodations vary. Hotel rates are, of course, higher than those for motor hotels and motels.

Importantly, Lincoln is a Midwestern, heartland city. People are friendly; the pace is relaxed while service in the hotels, motels, motor hotels and restaurants is pleasant and helpful. In fact, it is difficult to find anything negative to say about Lincoln, its football team, its university or its citizens.

If you’ve never been to Lincoln during Nebraska football season, you’re in for a rare and special treat … and memories that will stay with you for many years to come.  If you’re returning to Lincoln because you’ve experienced all of the excitement in the past … you, of course, know what to expect. And that’s why you’re coming back.

Once again: there are many fine hotels, motels and motor hotels in and around Lincoln. However, once the college football season starts, rooms go fast and hotels fill up. Don’t let yourself get shut out. Book your room – and your stay – today.
